Energy Efficient Consensus Over Directed Graphs

2018

Consensus algorithms are iterative methods that represent a basic building block to achieve superior functionalities in increasingly complex sensor networks by facilitating the implementation of many signal-processing tasks in a distributed manner. Due to the heterogeneity of the devices, which may present very different capabilities (e.g. energy supply, transmission range), the energy often becomes a scarce resource and the communications turn into directed. To maximize the network lifetime, a magnitude that in this work measures the number of consensus processes that can be executed before the first node in the network runs out of battery, we propose a topology optimization methodology fo…

A Restricted-Weakly Connected Dominating Set for Role Assignment in a Multichannel MAC for Wireless Mesh Network

2009

International audience; We propose an efficient way of constructing the wireless mesh structure associated with Molecular MAC, a multichannel access method designed for efficient packet forwarding. We base our role assignment on a restricted Weakly Connected Dominating Set structure. After presenting a formal definition of the role assignment problem, we prove its NP-completeness. Then, we propose a centralized 2-approximation algorithm that maximizes the sum of radio link capacities in the molecular structure. Finally, we extend this protocol so that it can operate in a distributed way still providing the same guarantee. This distributed protocol is self-stabilizing thus robust to topology…

MCD: Overcoming the Data Download Bottleneck in Data Centers

2013

The data download problem in data centers describes the increasingly common task of coordinated loading of identical data to a large number of nodes. Data download is seen as a significant problem in exascale HPC applications. Uncoor-dinated reading from a central file server creates contention at the file server and its network interconnect. We propose and evaluation a reliable multicast based approach to solve the data download problem. The MCD system builds a logical multi-rooted tree based on the physical network topology and uses the logical view for a two-phase approach. In the first phase, the data is multicasted to all nodes. In the second phase, the logical tree is used for an effi…

Decentralized Subspace Projection for Asymmetric Sensor Networks

2020

A large number of applications in Wireless Sensor Networks include projecting a vector of noisy observations onto a subspace dictated by prior information about the field being monitored. In general, accomplishing such a task in a centralized fashion, entails a large power consumption, congestion at certain nodes and suffers from robustness issues against possible node failures. Computing such projections in a decentralized fashion is an alternative solution that solves these issues. Recent works have shown that this task can be done via the so-called graph filters where only local inter-node communication is performed in a distributed manner using a graph shift operator. Most of the existi…

Error mitigation using RaptorQ codes in an experimental indoor free space optical link under the influence of turbulence

2015

In free space optical (FSO) communications, several factors can strongly affect the link quality. Among them, one of the most important impairments that can degrade the FSO link quality and its reliability even under the clear sky conditions consists of optical turbulence. In this work, the authors investigate the generation of both weak and moderate turbulence regimes in an indoor environment to assess the FSO link quality. In particular, they show that, due to the presence of the turbulence, the link experiences both erasure errors and packet losses during transmission, and also compare the experimental statistical distribution of samples with the predicted Gamma Gamma model. Furthermore,…

The role of network connectivity on epileptiform activity.

2021

AbstractA number of potentially important mechanisms have been identified as key players to generate epileptiform activity, such as genetic mutations, activity-dependent alteration of synaptic functions, and functional network reorganization at the macroscopic level. Here we study how network connectivity at cellular level can affect the onset of epileptiform activity, using computational model networks with different wiring properties. The model suggests that networks connected as in real brain circuits are more resistant to generate seizure-like activity. The results suggest new experimentally testable predictions on the cellular network connectivity in epileptic individuals, and highligh…

Intent Detection System Based on Word Embeddings

2018

Intent detection is one of the main tasks of a dialogue system. In this paper we present our intent detection system that is based on FastText word embeddings and neural network classifier. We find a significant improvement in the FastText sentence vectorization. The results show that our intent detection system provides state-of-the-art results on three English datasets outperforming many popular services.

Hidden Markov Model Based Machine Learning for mMTC Device Cell Association in 5G Networks

2019

Massive machine-type communication (mMTC) is expected to play a pivotal role in emerging 5G networks. Considering the dense deployment of small cells and the existence of heterogeneous cells, an MTC device can discover multiple cells for association. Under traditional cell association mechanisms, MTC devices are typically associated with an eNodeB with highest signal strength. However, the selected eNodeB may not be able to handle mMTC requests due to network congestion and overload. Therefore, reliable cell association would provide a smarter solution to facilitate mMTC connections. To enable such a solution, a hidden Markov model (HMM) based machine learning (ML) technique is proposed in …

A survey on data center network topologies

2018

Data centers are the infrastructures that support the cloud computing services. So, their topologies have an important role on controlling the performance of these services. Designing an efficient topology with a high scalability and a good network performance is one of the most important challenges in data centers. This paper surveys recent research advances linked to data center network topologies. We review some representative topologies and discuss their proprieties in details. We compare them in terms of average path length, network fault tolerance, scalability and connection pattern techniques. Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2018. Acknowledgment.
